
SHERMAN, Denise (Mickie) Allen, was born August 30, 1929, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Dennis Jones Allen and Thelma Patterson Allen. The family moved to Nashville in 1937. Mickie was educated in the Nashville school system, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1946. Following her graduation, she attended and graduated from Ward Belmont College for Women. She went to work in the Personnel Department at National Life Insurance Company, and she modeled for many of the fine stores in Nashville. In 1967, she was appointed Executive Director of the Nashville office of the American Cancer Society. During this period, she was selected as one of the prominent women in health services by a professional business organization in 1977. The following year, she married Robert P. Sherman. Together, they enjoyed all travel but especially travel in Europe. Preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Luke Seigenthaler, 1960, her granddaughter, Allison Leigh Amos, 1989, her daughter, Julie Seigenthaler Amos, 1992, and her husband, Robert P. Sherman, 2011. She is survived by her brother and sister, the twins, Robert P. Allen (Sue) and Mary Allen Hanks, a son Walter Allen Seigenthaler (Karma),a stepson Jacob S. Sherman, stepdaughters Ann Edelman, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Cathy Peeples (Grant), Tallahassee, Florida, a granddaughter Jennifer Amos Harrell, a grandson Jeremy A. Amos (Katherine), 2 step granddaughters, and 6 great grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Private family services to be held Friday at Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Sherman Art Library, Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire.
