Denise Welch was the daughter of Audrey Lineberry Winters and the late Claude Winters, Jr.
She was born in Nashville in 1955. Her two sisters, Charisse (Jerry) Moseley and Kimberly Slate nicknamed her Cissy at an early age and from then on, she was “Cissy”.
She had wonderful childhood memories of her Mom, Dad and sisters loading up on weekends and going to “the country” to see her grandparents, Ethridge and Vallie Lineberry of Clifton, TN. She loved her aunts, uncles and cousins… almost too many to count.
Cissy attended Bailey Elementary and Jr. High and was a 1973 graduate of East High School. Her working life started with Third National Bank and the Metro Nashville Police Dept. She attended UT- Nashville before launching into the fast-paced world of Advertising and Media Production. Denise enjoyed a rewarding career and made many friends during her time with Erikson Advertising, Graphic Process and Capitol Engraving.
On New Year’s Eve 1982 she met Phil Welch and from that day on they were together. Married in 1984 they began their journey. Phil’s old college chums soon became her ‘best’ friends and together they traveled to UT football games, UT basketball games, beach trips, weddings and dance parties. She enjoyed music and was known as an elegant dancer.
The entire Welch family loved, respected and admired her and she held a very special place. Frances (Gran) and Philip (Pop), Gay and Joe Rushing, Lu Welch, Deanna Sellers, her nieces and nephews were all dear to her heart.
When her children Philip and Lesley were born, she made a smooth transition to what would be her natural calling… being a full time Mother and Homemaker.
Her style, her charm and her creative nature made her home warm and inviting. Holidays were her favorite times, and each room was tastefully decorated in seasonal fashion. Cissy was festive.
Her children adored her. Lesley inherited her creative talent and Philip her organizational skills. She was totally involved in their lives. They were her life’s work and joy!
She was a wonderful example and best friends to both of her children. On December 17, 2018, Abigail June Welch, her precious granddaughter was born. Cissy’s purpose in life had never been more fulfilled.
She held herself to extremely high standards but not others. She was a member of the Crieve Hall Church of Christ where she faithfully worshipped. Over the years she grew closer and closer to God. She served God by serving and encouraging others. His light shined through her… for all to see.
