Dewitt J. Thompson

Dewitt J. Thompson "D.J.", age 100, of Smyrna, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. D.J. was born on October 10, 1922 to Jesse and Vera Thompson in Atlanta, Georgia. He married Luella Thompson in Bayonne, New Jersey on December 23, 1944.

D.J. is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Vera Thompson; wife, Luella Thompson; daughter, Kathy Busby; brothers, Charles and Jesse Thompson; and sister, Marjorie Gildea. He is survived by his son, Rob Thompson (Kathy); Grandsons, Jeff Vaden, Whit Thompson, and Great-Grandson, Irwin Thompson.

After finishing school at Hunnington High School, D.J. began his business of the General Smelting, Inc. He was a loving father and role model. D.J. was very family oriented and a generous man that placed high value on one's character. In D.J.'s free time he enjoyed the horse races, nascar racing, being a flight instructor and a pilot.

A gathering of family and friends for Dewitt will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. Following the gathering of family and friends will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
