Nina was a beloved and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devout parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church and a St. Bernard Academy, class of 1947, graduate.
A driven woman, ahead of her time, with a long career in telecommunications, she pioneered the implementation of the 911 emergency phone system. Nina was a social butterfly who loved to talk. She was the natural choice to take charge of the welcoming committee at her longtime residence, Morningside of Belmont, where she often enjoyed playing a competitive card game and chatting with friends. Nina was very loyal to her longtime companion, Jim Beam. We will dearly miss our long chats with Nina, her quick wit and her unwavering love and support.
Nina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Erby Whitaker; parents, Earl Graden Adams and Mary Cecilia Lollar Adams; brother, Donald Adams; nephew, Clay Adams; grandson-in-law, Peter Curry, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Lisa) Mayo; grandchildren, Carmen (Drew) Smith, Zachary Mayo and Rachel (Hunter) Ellen; great-grandchildren, Graden Smith, Chapman Smith, Zane Ellen and Virginia Ellen; nephews, Gray Adams and Patrick Adams; nieces Julie Adams and Lee Ann (William) Fuller; Matthew Mayo Family and Maria Turner Family.
Pallbearers are Zac Mayo, Drew Smith, Hunter Ellen, Graden Smith, Chapman Smith, Gray Adams, Patrick Adams, and Sammy Adams
