

Born in Brooklyn NY to Reuben and Adelle Balfus on July 10 1941. Preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves behind her husband Seymour “Sy” of 53 years who she adored and loved dearly and her two daughters, Michelle and Alyssa were her source of light. She loved seeing the world.
Her brother Larry who was always there when she needed him and she adored him. His late wife Roberta was like a sister to her. She also was taken too soon in life. Nieces and Nephews that although she didn’t see them much were definitely part of her life. Her aunt and uncle in San Diego were her example of living life to the fullest. Her biggest regret was not spending more time with all of them.
During her 50 plus years of living in Nashville she was very involved on numerous community boards, United Way, Komen Race for the Cure, Dan Rudy Cancer Center where she raised over $200,000 to improve patient care, she was a life member of both Hadassah and NCJW. The treatment of patients was always her #1 priority. Her mantra was everyone deserves to be treated with respect, care and compassion. She was the Yoplait Breast Cancer Survivor of the Year in 2001.
Diane joined the board of directors for the Jewish Community Center in 1972 and continued until she became President in 1999. She was the last president in the 20th Century and the first in the 21st. She instituted many programs and was involved with the remodeling of the new GJCC. Customer service was her first job…smiling faces were a must. She stayed involved till the very end.
She was always available to help any organization that was in need. She had a passion for fundraising that helped others. She was still involved before she passed away. Her strongest belief was the need to make Patient Care and customer care the first priority.
Diane made sure she was surrounded by the best team of doctors, Natalie Dickson, who was there for her day or night and who epitomized patient care as they always came first. Jeffrey Infante and Paul Rosenblatt who constantly made her feel they were just a phone call away.
Her Mahjong Mavens, golf buddies and numerous acquaintances were so kind and caring. Her dearest friends and community rallied with her until the very end.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Services of Nashville.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 22nd at The Temple, 5015 Harding Road. Nashville, TN. 37205.
