He entered the army at the age of 18 and served for 2 years. After discharge he was employed by Davis Cabinet Company for a short time before enlisting into the Army National Guard. There he continued his career for the remainder of his life retiring as a Sergeant Major.
He enjoyed attending his church and Sunday School class at Cloyd’s Cumberland Presbyterian of Mt. Juliet.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Florence Mae Smith Baker and Lee Baker along with brother, JR Baker. He is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Doris Lynette Hayes Baker, son Randall Lee Baker (Susan), grandson, Stephen Lee Baker of Wichita Falls, Texas, sister Susie Eaton (Bob) of Joeliet, Illinois and brother Max Baker (Bert) of Urbana, Illinois. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, 37204 on Tuesday, August 3rd from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with service beginning at 12:00 pm followed by a military honor burial at Woodlawn Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to your local VFW in Donald Baker’s honor.
