He was born in Monroe, Michigan, the son of the late Freeman Lee and Eula Shumate Spangler. He graduated from Everett High School class of 1956. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Illa Spangler, and brother, Phillip Spangler.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Gregg) Payne; step-son, John Troutt; granddaughter, Grace Payne; brothers, Glen (Sara) Spangler, James (Joyce) Spangler, and Steve (Carol) Spangler, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home from 2:00 until 4:00 pm with the Celebration of Life Service following at 4:00 pm in the chapel.
Interment will be Monday, October 2, 2017 at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 in memory of Don.
