Doris was born on December 27, 1934 in Fayetteville, TN, the daughter of Clifford and Ruby Touchstone-Posey. She married Orville Lewis Bailey on June 1st, 1969 in Nashville, and they were fortunate to celebrate 50 years of marriage together. Doris worked for the Board of Pharmacy as the Administrative Assistant for many years prior to retirement.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, Doris enjoyed spending time with those she loved. She even devoted time and had a special place in her heart for the Davis family and Sophia and Max whom she helped nanny. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, and she loved her home. Doris and Lewis also loved to travel together. They took many trips to Florida and Jekyll Island, GA.
Doris had a great love for God and her church family. She was a 25+ year member of what was the Woodbine-Cumberland Presbyterian Church prior to its merger with Tusculum Presbyterian Church. After the merger, Doris and Lewis remained faithful members.
Surviving is her husband, Orville Lewis Bailey; daughters, Margaret (husband, Dan) Nelson-Paulus and Sharon (husband, Terry Olin) Nelson; grandson, Matthew (wife, Olivia) Rodney; great-grandson, Evan Rodney; and cousin, Carol Hardin.
Preceding her in death are her parents; and two sisters, Barbara Cunningham and Verlon Rae Smith.
A gathering of friends and family will be on Saturday, July 27, 2019 from eleven o’clock in the morning until one o’clock, and a Celebration of Life will follow at one o’clock at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Middlebrooks officiating. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
