

KNOWLES, Dorothy Elizabeth Talbott, 95, of Nashville, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. She was born to the late William and Lenore Talbott, Aug. 4, 1917, in Clarksville, MD. Dorothy, or Dottie as she was known to many of her friends, attended Hollins College and the University of Maryland, graduating in 1938, and receiving a BS degree in Medical Technology. She married the late Joseph Thomas Knowles in 1949, and they lived together in Nashville, TN. Dorothy was the head of Bacteriology at The Veterans Hospital in Nashville until she retired in 1979. Prior to her career in Nashville she spent the war years serving at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. Dorothy was an active member of the Blakemore United Methodist Church and an active member of the Ladies Church Circle. She loved to dance and was active in ballroom dance competitions for many years during her retirement. She also loved to travel, and took several tours and cruises with her close friend Mary Stout. Dorothy is survived by her two sons: Robert D. Knowles (Anita), of Franklin TN and James T. Knowles (Nancy), of Ooltewah TN. She also is survived by her three grandchildren, Angela Knowles Murray (Joey), Lori Knowles Sackmann (Jeff), and Robert D. Knowles, II. Visitation with the family will be held from six until eight o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 30th of August, at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 31st of August, in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow the service at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
