Dorthy Jennings Cole

Dorothy Jennings Cole was born on January 27th, 1927 in Smithville, TN to Mr. Fred Jennings and Mrs. Majjie Cantrell Jennings. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Dibrell High School in 1944. Upon graduating from the Nashville Business School the following year, Dorothy went on to work for Guaranty Mortgage Company. Dorothy married Phillip Edward Cole in 1948. They had three children: Phillip Jr., Melissa, and Emily. Dorothy was widowed at age 40 and raised her children by herself, putting them all through college.

Dorothy was a proud member of Pennington United Methodist Church in Nashville. She joined the congregation in 1961. She served the church as the financial secretary, on the administrative board, and on the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and as a trustee.

She worked for the Greer family at Guaranty Mortgage Company for 62 years until her retirement.

Dorothy died on January 8th, 2025 in Hendersonville, TN. At her passing, she was in the presence of her daughter Melissa, bathed in prayer, love, and her favorite hymns.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Phillip, her siblings Jo, Robert, Sam, Corinne, and Irene, and her daughter Emily.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Cole Orgain (Dr. Richard Orgain); her son, Phillip Edward Cole Jr. (Karen); her grandchildren Dr. Joel Veitschegger (Katherine), Dr. Adam Veitschegger (Stephanie), Rachel Wheeler (Mr. Stephen Wheeler); and her great-grandchildren, Walker Veitschegger, Dean Veitscheggger, June Veitschegger, Kathryn Veitschegger, Samuel Wheeler, and Benjamin Wheeler.

In Dot’s later years she loved mystery novels, word puzzles, and visits from her family and friends.

She loved her church, her family, and her savior Jesus Christ.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at Pennington Fellowship Church, 2745 Pennington Bend Road, Nashville, TN 37214 on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11 am.
