Edna lived an active life. She retired from CNA and spent time with her husband, Bill, in Nashville and Florida. Edna had dozens of four legged children, and cared deeply for her ponies, cats, dogs and goats. Her two-legged children were ducks and geese, who responded to their names. Edna’s relationships with animals included the wild sort, and many friends witnessed her feeding the local deer and turkey from her hands.
Edna was feisty, loved and loving. At 101 years of age, she danced with a stranger outside her beloved Doctor Tom Callaway’s office. Two weeks before her passing, she was still feigning to be a bad checkers player and then beating those half her age.
Faith was of utmost importance to Edna. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church. She began every morning with this prayer:
Good morning, God
You are ushering in another day, untouched and freshly new
So here I am, to ask you God, if You’ll renew me, too
Forgive the many errors that I made yesterday
And let me try again to walk closer in your way
But Lord I am well aware, I cannot make it on my own
So take my hand and hold it tight, for I cannot walk alone
