

Mr. White was born in Trousdale County, TN, on October 26, 1920, the son of the late Claude White and Blanche Dies White. He graduated from Trousdale County High School, attended David Lipscomb College, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and obtained his Masters in Education from Columbia University. He worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory during World War II. Mr. White began his teaching career in 1949 in Davidson County School System. Also, he taught in Pasedena California City Schools from 1964 until 1968 and retired from Cumberland County, TN School System in 1985. He served as Assistant Principal and Coach of the Cumberland County HS Championship Chess Teams.
He traveled around the U.S.A. and the globe. He visited 48 of the 50 United States and longed to see Michigan and North Dakota before his health prevented further trips. He made multiple visits to London and around the UK. His travels to Europe included France, Germany, Italy, and Greece. He made two trips to Mexihis Niececo and his last venture to Venezuela took him to the base of Angel Falls with a stop in Aruba on his return to Nashville.
Survivors include a niece, Helen Clinton of Pembroke Pines, FL; nephew, James White of Jacksonville, FL; great-nephew, Gary Wayne Marsicek of Jasper, GA; cousins, Clay White of Milwaukee, WI, Patti McKay of Brisbane, Australia, and Bob White of Cheyenne, WY; niece, Sherry Miller of Nashville; and several great-nieces, nephews, and other cousins. Edwin was revered by scores of his former students for his lifelong influence on their lives and his many teaching associates with whom he worked and formed eternal friendships.
A Celebration of Life was held Friday, October 16, 2015, at one o’clock in the afternoon, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall.
