

Betty was born on October 16, 1932, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Morris D. Phillips and Bernice Greene Phillips. She was a proud graduate of Hillsboro High School, where she played basketball and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
In April of 1951, Betty married the love of her life, John Kennedy. They shared 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and love.
Betty was deeply family-oriented and found her greatest joy in time spent with those she loved. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, and hunting—activities that reflected her strong spirit and appreciation for the outdoors.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Michael Kennedy and David Byron Kennedy (Mary); her grandsons, John David Kennedy (Stephanie), Alan C. Kennedy (Taylor), and Andrew Byron Kennedy; her granddaughter, Kelly Kennedy Garcia (Dan Garcia); step-granddaughters, Mary Leigh Newsom and Virginia Fowler; great-grandsons, Ashton Kennedy and Oliver Garcia; great-granddaughters, Alylah Kennedy, Wednesday Kennedy and Violet Garcia; and step great-granddaughter Emmaleigh Newsom. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Phillips.
A graveside service will be held Friday, December 26, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204.
