

Elsie "Nana" Gardner passed away peacefully on August 16, 2016 at home. She was 88. Elsie Gardner was born on May 11, 1928 in Natural Bridge, New York. On November 19, 1949, she married the love of her life, Arthur James Gardner and they lived happily near Natural Bridge, New York before relocating in 1972 to Nashville, Tennessee. Elsie deeply loved her friends, children, grandchildren; cherished her role as a Yankee in the South; and befriended cats, dogs, lambs, pigs, and all other animals that warmed to her caress. Elsie never allowed a visitor to leave without eating or drinking more than their fill and her kind generosity will be dearly remembered. Elsie is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents, Ethel and LeRoy; her sisters Pearl, Claire, Leah, and brother Warren. Elsie is survived by her sister Betty, her daughters Shari, DeeDee, and Dianne; her son Charlie; her nine grandchildren, Chris, Joey, Scott, Danny, Chelsea, Shawn, Meagan, A.J., and Beth; and her seven great grandchildren, Hadley, Caitlin, Stella, Tynlee, Nora, Elsie, and Tobias. Her family would like to extend its most sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff at Alive Hospice of Nashville. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you consider a donation to Alive Hospice. Visitation will occur from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 190 Graylynn Drive, Nashville, TN.
