Eugenia ‘Jean’ Mihalakis Kaludis passed away on October 4, 2026, at age 86 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jean was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to the late Aphrodite Mihalakis (née Chiadis) and Michael Mihalakis. Throughout her life she lived in several states, with Nashville being home for most of it.
Jean studied Education/American History at then Beaver College, now Arcadia University, and devoted her career to teaching. As a beloved Montessori and Sunday school teacher, she shared her curiosity and love of learning with generations of children. She also took great joy in raising her four children and passing along her love of reading and history.
Stories about her children and grandchildren always brought a smile to Jean’s face and a twinkle to her eye. She had a gift for lighting up a room and making everyone she met feel welcome. Her impeccable style reflected the grace and beauty she carried within. Jean will be remembered for her generous heart, keen intellect, natural elegance, and warm, infectious laugh.
A devoted Greek Orthodox Christian, Jean cherished her church community at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Nashville. She and her husband, George, formed many lifelong friendships there. Jean was an active member of the Philoptochos Society, the Greek Orthodox Church’s charitable organization, which serves people in need.
Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Kaludis; her children, Stephen Kaludis (Lorna), Michele Kaludis Owens (Andrew), William ‘Bill’ Kaludis; (Catherine), and Kirk Kaludis (Jessica); her grandchildren Kathryn ‘Katie’ Kaludis, George Kaludis, Justin Owens, Hayley Owens, James Kaludis, Charles ‘Charlie’ Kaludis, and Alexander Kaludis; her brother, James Mihalikis (Kelly); and several nephews and grandnephews.
Jean will be deeply missed by her family, church community, former students, and many friends. As one family member said, “We will never have someone that elegant in the family again.”
