

Frances Dillon, affectionately known as “Nana” to her family, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20th at the age of 91. She was born in Chattanooga, TN to the late William Seay Hunter and Nellie Marie Penix. She was raised in Nashville, TN where she attended Tarbox Elementary and West End High School. After marriage to her late husband, Joseph Gatlin Dillon, Sr., they were energetic parents to four children, leading scout troops, sport teams and church activities. After the passing of her beloved “Joe” in 1976, she became a valued employee and supervisor at Peabody College and Vanderbilt University. Frances was an active member of the Pilot Service Club, Belle Wood Garden Club, Ladies of Charity and several bridge groups. She was a world traveler and always eager to “pack her bags” until poor health slowed her in her later years.
Frances is survived by children Cassandra Estes (Robert), Joseph Dillon, Jr. (Pam), Jeanette Hamlington (Gary) and Ed Dillon (Pamela). She was also a loving grandmother and great grandmother to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Wm. Edward Hunter and Richard Hunter.
The family extends special thanks to Frances’ Brookdale Belle Meade Assisted Living friends, Dr. Richard Meyer and her Alive Hospice team especially Sarah and Peggy.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church on Monday, July 24th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family at St. Henry’s will be on Sunday, July 23rd from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry’s Ministry of the Homebound, 6401 Harding Pike, 37205 or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., 37203.
