

Frances Nelson was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, to Goodwin Downing and Gertrude Nelson on December 9, 1916, in Brownsville, Tennessee. She attended school at St. Cecelia, Marymount and Vanderbilt University, where she met her future husband, John Moten Omohundro Jr. in 1936. John died in 1995. She passed away May 5 at the age of 99. She is survived by their four children Dr. John Moten Omohundro III (Peggy), Richard Nelson Omohundro (deceased), William Downing Omohundro (Elissa), Suzanne Omohundro Cantrell (James), and Dr. Barry F. Omohundro (Laurel), grandchildren, Jenny C (Mike) Robinson, Christy Omohundro, Cindy O. Davis (Bill), Lynn O. Haston (Charles), Laurie O. Shackleford, Downing O. Denison (Paul), Dr. Luke Omohundro (Pam), John Omohundro, Ashley O. Coe (Ryan), Rachael O. McClendon (Woody) and 16 great grandchildren.
Frances was a member of the Lebanon Road Garden Club and the Holy Rosary Church and its Parent Association. She was an avid gardener, artist, bridge player, camper and fisherman. Gardenias were her favorite flowers. Her family was the most important part of her life. She always had a warm welcome for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Convent at 2329 Pennington Bend Road, Nashville TN 37214 or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 8th from 2-6 at Hibbett and Hailey Funeral Home in Donelson. The graveside service will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery 1101 Lebanon Road, Nashville on Monday, May 9 at 11 am Father Joseph Patrick Breen officiating service.
