He was born the son of Charles D. Black, Sr., and Anna Laura Williams Black. He is a longtime resident of Nashville and worked for Velvet Ice Cream Company as a salesman. Mr. Black served our country in World War II in the Army and was a former member of the American Legion Post 88.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel A. Black; son, Larry W. Black, and brothers, Charles D. Black, Jr., and Leslie O. Black.
He is survived by his children, Franklin D. (Rose) Black, Jr., Dewey E. Black, Sr., Ronnie J. (Sandra) Black, Beverly A. (Don) Schafer, and Terry L. Black; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Mary Frances Black, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and also on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
The Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 am with Minister Mike Tidwell officiating.
Interment and Military Honors will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
