

Gayle Tipton Welch passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, after 87 wonderful and beautiful years. Gayle grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After college, she married her husband and the love of her life, Hugh, in 1957. They lived in Birmingham, AL, Hinsdale, IL, and Pittsburgh, PA. They moved to Nashville 30 years ago to be closer to their family, as both daughters, Kathy and Cindy, were living in Nashville at that time.
Upon moving to Nashville, Gayle and Hugh joined First Presbyterian Church of Nashville where she became an active member and served on numerous committees, including Moderator of the Presbyterian Women and Circle Leader; in which she was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. She was also a member of The Centennial Club of Nashville and the P. E. O. Organization, where she served as President twice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Hugh Welch, who passed away in 2013. Gayle is survived by two daughters, Kathy Welch Rolfe (Bobby) and Cindy Welch Wyrsch (Brad), five grandchildren, Robert Rolfe, Jr. (Janie), Carly Symington (Ian), Leslie Hazen (John), Carter Wyrsch (Hannah) and Callie Kratz (Josiah), and five great grandchildren, Margaret Holladay Rolfe, Anne Walker Rolfe, Virginia Gayle Symington, Elliot Grace Wyrsch and Kade Gabriel Kratz.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, at First Presbyterian Church located at 4815 Franklin Road in the Courtney Hall from 10:00 am until 11:30 am, followed by a Memorial Service in the Sanctuary at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made to Alive Hospice or First Presbyterian Church of Nashville.
