Gerald L. Gilmore, age 83, died in his home on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Born in 1934 to Irish immigrants in Detroit, Michigan, he joined the U.S. Army and then went on to become the first in his family to earn a bachelor's degree, which he received from Wayne State University in Michigan. Always creative, he began a career in the publishing industry in Chicago, where he met his wife of 53 years, Dr. Sue Chaney Gilmore, in the early 1960s. After moving to Nashville in 1974, he worked for the State of Tennessee until his retirement twenty years later. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue and his three children, Marc Bradley Gilmore (Debbie), Chaney Gilmore Cruze(Chip), and Neal Barret Gilmore, as well as seven grandchildren, all of whom he has constantly and faithfully supported in countless ways. An avid photographer, he was loved by many and will be missed by all. Family visitation will be held from five o’ clock in the evening until seven on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at two-thirty in the afternoon on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall.
