PHILLIPS, Gerald H. "Jud" Age 62, of Nashville TN, died Thursday morning, October 21, 2010. Born in West Virginia January 7, 1948, Jud was the son of the late Gerald H and Milda Phillips. A graphic designer, song writer, musician, artist, and private pilot and flight instructor, Jud attended West Virginia Wesleyan College in fine arts and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in commercial art. For over 30 years he made his living as a graphic designer, working as creative director for Channel 2, Eric Ericson and Associates, Bohan Agency, Little Planet Publishing and others, as well as partnering with his wife in Phillips Creative for many years. He spent over 24 years as a private pilot, over 20 years as flight instructor and more recently as charter pilot with Wings of Eagles and Harmony Air. Jud's passions were many: pilot; member, head man and Governor of the Quiet Birdmen; picker and singer with The Music City Flyboys, sculptor, photographer and flight instructor. His oldest student was over 70, youngest under 16. He also brewed great beer and loved an occasional cigar. In addition to his wife of over 33 years, Bobbie Phillips, he is survived by three godchildren, Thomas Kitch, Heather Kitch and Daniel Kitch. Jud was a special man, a beloved husband, a good friend and a first class curmudgeon with a heart of gold. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial at Woodlawn's Dignity Hall on Monday, October 25 at 1 p.m. to celebrate Jud's life. Anyone may share their memories of Jud. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jud's name to Hadac, www.hadac.org. Chuck and Candy Ritzen started this foundation, located in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. They fly in medical supplies, doctors and have started free clinics. Jud has donated time and talent to this non-profit organization.
