

Gregory was an accomplished pianist who recorded his first album at the age of 17. He was recognized as one of the top gospel musicians in Southern gospel music and achieved two Top 20 songs in the genre. His passion for music led him to work alongside many talented artists, and he was deeply devoted to the Grand Ole Opry, where he cherished the musicians he had the privilege to assist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fountain and Mavis Simpkins, his brother, Jeff Simpkins, and nephew Jonathan Baysden. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Linwood Taylor of Hookerton, NC, and Timmy Baysden of Jacksonville, NC; his sister-in-law, Barbara Baysden of Jacksonville, NC; and his nieces, Stacey Baysden, Holly Taylor, and Brandy Simpkins.
Gregory is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Virginia Simpkins; his loving daughter, Kecia (Rhett) Bateman; and his cherished grandchildren, Madalyn (Nick) Garn and Brayden Supak. He was also blessed with one great-grandson, Baby Garn due in September 2025.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at the same location, with Brother Nick Garn officiating.
