Gwen Ann Spann

Gwen Ann Spann (Koehn), 91, passed away on February 24, 2021 at her home in Brentwood, TN after a courageous fight with cancer, which she undertook with incredible dignity and humility – never losing her positive outlook on life or incredible wit. As was one of the many traits that made it a blessing to know her, even in her final days she continued to focus more on how to make those around her comfortable.

Gwen was born in Nashville, TN. Until her retirement in 2018, she was owner and President of Spann Insurance, Inc. Founded in 1951, Spann Insurance grew to become one of the largest woman owned businesses in Nashville, no doubt due to her unmatched work ethic.

She is predeceased by her husband, John Arthur Spann, Jr., son John Arthur Spann III, parents Clarence R. and Doretta (Heck) Koehn, sister Dorothy Cobb (Koehn) and brothers Clarence Koehn, Jr., Ray Koehn and Jarvis Koehn.

She is survived by her son, Franklin Lee Spann (Cindy Foster), grandson John Arthur Spann IV (Kristy), two great-grandchildren (John Spann V & Audrey Spann), daughter-in-law Louise Spann (John Spann III) as well as Eraca Sparks (Mike) and their children (Josalyn, Savannah and Caroline).

Visitation for friends and family will be from 9:00-11:00 on Saturday, February 27th at Arlington United Methodist Church, with funeral service immediately following. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. It was important to her that, especially in light of COVID, no one feel obligated to attend her funeral service. Also, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to Arlington United Methodist Church, 1360 Murfreesboro Rd, Nashville, TN 37217, would be appreciated.
