Henry Marshall Gaither, III passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He is preceded in death by his son, Henry Marshall Gaither, IV and survived by his brother, Anderson Campbell Gaither his son, Robert Anderson (Andy) Gaither his cousins Robert L Fox Jr, Louise E Fox, Harry G Walters, Varina Frazer Buntin, and Marshall G Frazer. Known as Marshall to his family, Henry to his colleagues, and Col. Gaither in the military, he was a native Nashvillian who attended Woodmont School, Hillsboro High School, and Vanderbilt University. Marshall was a loving father, a kind brother, and a loyal friend to many. After graduating from Navigator School and serving as a navigator in the Tennessee Air National Guard, Marshall graduated from Air Force Pilot School (UPT), pursuing a career as a pilot for Northwest airlines and the Tennessee Air National Guard with the 118th Airlift Wing as the ALCE Commander where he lead and completed missions across the globe before his appointment to TN ANG State Headquarters. Col Gaither loved working on classic cars and at the time of his death was working on a classic Thunderbird and an MG convertible. Marshall’s generosity cannot be overstated; whatever was needed, whenever it had to be done and wherever it may happen to be Marshall was always happy to step in to cheerfully aid in whatever task, no matter for whom or at what expense. Everyone who needed help received his fullest support and efforts. It was his unique gift. In his retirement years, Marshall dedicated his time and efforts to supporting Montgomery Bell Academy, Harpeth Hall, and Saint Ceclia shooting teams, leading several individual shooters and multiple teams to local and state championships and even seeing multiple youths through to their collegiate and post-collegiate shooting careers. Visitation will be held at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs funeral home at 10 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, March 25, followed by internment and a reception at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
