So again I thank God for him and send out blessings to his family that they can continue his legacy and know that I am always praying for them, for us, and that I am truly indebted to them, they are part of my core and I consider them a Twin family and so there is an electrical current that we share. Jesus Christ blesses this before, and now, and into the forward future. I love you Hez Stella Alex and Colin and all the new family Stella and Luci, and I am so sorry for your loss and I thank you for allowing this space for me to reflect upon such a great man Hezekiah Albert Thompson the 3rd. 

Thank you for everything you have done for me and my family Mr T, I love you. You are my good friend, and a true neighbor, and in my humble opinion, the world is not as functional as it was when you were around. And so yes, most definitely you are missed, to say the very least. I apologize for being so far away that only now have I properly revisited you. Respect you I do so much respect you my good friend. 

I thank God for having grown up in the Parmer Park neighborhood because Hez Thompson and his wife Stella did more than their fair share of parenting. Not only did they raise two fine gentlemen of their own, but that they are the primary reason the entire neighborhood full of good decent people, grew and flourished there at the top of the hill  on Lasalle Ct. I was very shy and younger than everyone at my elementary school Harding Academy and high school MBA, and so that I was blessed with having grown up with Colin and Alex living up the street from me. Everyone of their friends became my important friends, and every form of athletic and social progress was developed from our love of street hockey and ice hockey. We all inexplicably became very darn good at this particular sport and it accelerated our developmental activity in all theaters and contexts, and encouraged hard work and dedicated commitment towards achieving important goals (no pun intended)

  Hez Thompson essentially supervised everyone that gathered there and was very much responsible for making sure everyone and everything was Ok at all times everyday of the week. Everyone I know and hold dear to me as I have grown up can be sourced back to the world that they provided for me to visit, and to participate in a good life, and to strive to be a good man. I wouldn’t have a life without my parents Harriet and Dave Sr and my step Mom Cindi. And I wouldn’t have had any life after that without Hez Thompson and his incredible never ending wise counsel and kindness. 

I would describe him as a village elder or sacred chieftain or something along these lines but at the end of the day it’s easy to see he is one of the best friends I will ever have and it is a profound honor and privilege to say so. He is dearly missed, he is like a star, guiding good people to port(sport) and with the Thompsons around I was able to skate through most of the difficult parts of the terrain that is any young persons path

To many of you, who knew my papa by Hez to me and my little sister he was papa. I can still remember how we would sit on his lap as tickled our feet bounced us on his knee.  I resently looked at his obituary and it sent me to tears and happy memories of him. Oh, I miss him very much and I can only wish for more time we could have spent with him.  I hope that wherever he maybe now he is always with us in memory and  I hope he knows that we miss him very much. And that we hope he is with my grandmother who I am named Stella Buship Thompson. That they get to see each other again.  And he gets to be with his siblings and lost family. To let him know how much we loved him and how we think so fondly of him. I know it's three years late to writing this but I just had too and I was a bit young before to write one but I just wanted to add to his memory.  I want to tell him that Luci, Dad,  Mom, and Uncle colin miss you so much, and it's not the same without you.  If you are able to read this  I love you pappa and I miss you.  We all do. 

I asked a friend this morning about Hez since I hadn't seen him around town in awhile, only to find out that he'd died sometime in the last year. Hez took Tim and myself to Memphis when we were ten years old or so for the weekend. It was my first trip through Centerville (where I live most of the time now).

I was always happy to see `Bub' when I'd run into him somewhere and we'd always chat. He was great guy, and my world is smaller with his loss.

I've known your father almost my entire life. In fact, shortly after the older of you was born, my wife, Dee, held you and panicked because she was afraid that she would drop you. Hez was my Boy Scout leader, a poker playing (loosing) buddy and my Best Man over 40 years ago.
It's January 18 and I'm just finding out about your father's death. It's my fault that I haven't kept up with him or, for that matter, his younger brother Tim who was a grammar school classmate. But I'll never forget the parties at his house across the street from his parents. What great times!

Your dad was such a big help when we lived on LaSalle Court. The family vacations y'all took and included JC ; him hanging out at your house; dawn til dusk street hockey; Predely games. Such great memories. He was a helluva guy. Will miss him.

Alex and Colin,Grandaughters to Hez Alex and Colin,your Dad/Granddad Hez Thompson, III (HAT, III) was one of my best childhood friends on Sunnybrook Drive growing up in Belle Meade and during later years when I was both in business and in state government in Nashville.. Your late Uncle Steve Thompson who was promoted to Heaven when a Hillsboro High footballer; Joyce Thompson, who was in my Hillsboro Class of 1958; and Tam Thompson all were also my dear friends growing up and in business during their lifetimes Nashville.  My late older brother Bennett Gillis Singleton was also a Hillsboro High classmate and friend of your Dad/Granddad, Hezekiah Albert Thompson, III.  Just plain Hez is how he referred to himself.

Hez Thompson was a highly successful first public school teacher of Social Science, then a very successful businessman as President of the Thompson Family 200+ gas stations chain that once ran from Southern Kentucky down to the Panhandle of Florida.  In later years MAPCO name and trade mark replaced the original Consumers brand name.  When Consumers was bought out by a businessman from Belle Meade, a condition of purchase of the sale was that Hez (III) would remain on as the President of what then became the gas station chain known today as MAPCO.  He remained as sMAPCO President until he was nearly 80 years old, so Hez's retirement was brief.

Hez Thompson (III) was a man of great Christian Courage all his lifetime, but especially during the past year since his stroke of December, 2015.  Hez's wife, Stella Bishop, was a direct Immigrant from England whom Hez dated for 10 years before Stella  got after him about starting a family for a more complete life.  Stella worked at Vanderbilt University, had a sparkle and pleasant air about her and was a great Mother to both  you, Alex and to Colin.

As all Christians believe in life eternal in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so you two, Alex and Colin, are now carrying on the long honored Thompson family tradition of doing your best at work and loving and raising your own families and in a blessed single life as well.

I am age 77+ today and when my Maker calls me Home to Heaven one day one of the things we all now miss, Hezekia Albert Thompson's infectious laugh, that laugh together with all my Singleton and Gillis family who have gone to Eternity before me. there in the midst of them all will be forever your dear Dad and my great friend, Hez Thompson (III), with his head thrown back laughing to beat the band!

Above all else having known your Father/Grandfather all our adult lives and much of our childhood, Hez most aspired to a good, happy marriage, and to be  blessed with fine children, Alex (wife Desi) supplied the two grandchildren  while Colin took excellent care of his Father now in Heaven, his dearly beloved Hezekiah Albert Thompson, III.  I can still hear Hez's wonderful room filling laughter.  God bless and keep you all, too many for me to count or name here and may His Peace be with you all now and forever more.  Amen.
