
DAVENPORT, Horace Neal, a Nashville resident, went to be with his heavenly father, Thursday afternoon, September 27, 2012. Originally from Deep Run, NC, Horace died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old. Horace was preceded in death by his father, John Robert Davenport, Sr. and mother, Sybil Stroud Davenport, brothers John Robert Davenport Jr. and Liston Davenport. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Powell Davenport and children, Neal Davenport (Cheri), Ann Davenport Ghianni (Eric), Matt Davenport (Victoria), Ginger Davenport DeFilippo (Vinny), twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Roger Davenport and sisters Dorothy Rigsbee and Delia Perkins. For twenty years he co-operated the family mercantile J. R. Davenport and Son in Deep Run, NC which eventually he owned and operated solely as Davenport's IGA. He and the family moved briefly to Charlotte, NC before making their home in Nashville, TN, where Horace worked in the grocery business, real estate sales and investing as he pursued his lifelong passion; music, a love in which he instilled and passed along to his family and in which many of his family now enjoy passionately and make their occupation. A member of Una Baptist Church, Horace was committed to his family and dedicated to his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 with an hour of visitation prior to the service. Graveside Services to immediately follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family would like to especially thank Guardian Hospice for the wonderful, loving care that they showed during Horace’s extended illness.
