(William, "Billy Boy") was born in Nashville, on 10/10/1929, to Pauline Morgan and Howard D. Derrick, Sr. He graduated from Fr. Ryan High School, MTSU, and received his M.A. from Peabody College. He was a commissioned officer in the Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime teacher and coach for over 50 years, with 27 at Fr. Ryan. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Christ the King,St. Matthew and then St. Henry Catholic Churches. He was a member of TSSAA Hall of Fame, Tennessee Fellowship of Christian Athletes and an inaugural member of the Tennessee Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Connie of 64 years and his children Mary Ray, Ann (Clarence) Strode, Theresa (Sam) Andrews, Margaret (Frank) Simpson, John (Kim) Derrick, Ruthie (Scott) Glover, Daughter-in-law, Janie Derrick, 45 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, siblings, Polly Curran, Monnie Watson, Jim Derrick, Mike Derrick, and Bob Derrick. He was preceded in death by his son, Matt Derrick, daughter, Joanie Derrick Conrad, and brothers Ed Derrick and Tommy Derrick. Pallbearers are his grandsons
Visitation Will be Monday May 21, 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at St. Henry Church.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday May 22, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the St. Cecilia Academy Tuition Assistance Fund or the Fr. Ryan Kevin Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
