

was born in Flatrock (Nashville) Tennessee on December 8, 1927. He was preceded in death by his
parents Samuel and Rosa Vernon and his siblings Ruby Allen, Woodrow Vernon, Lilton Vernon, Wilburn
Vernon, Melvin Vernon and Lorene Smith. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lillian Vernon and his
children Sheri Conlon (Charles), Marlene Gray, Linda Vernon (Melvin), Brenda Guillory, Ruth Leach (Joel)
and Gladys Vernon, 11 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and several
nieces and nephews.
He was a part of the greatest generation, serving in the Army 304 Signal Battalion in Yokohama, Japan.
After returning to the States, he married and raised six daughters. He worked for Super Service Freight
for 25 years then for Yellow Freight. He loved being on the road and traveling to different places.
During his life, he belonged to many organizations: a camping club, the American Legion, the La Societe
Des 40 Hommes ET 8 Chevaux, and The Free and Accepted Masons. He started a welfare club at Super
Service to help workers families in times of need.
When he was not working, he enjoyed building and fixing things. He enjoyed spending time with his
family. He loved watching sports and rarely missed a baseball or football game live or on TV.
