Howard raised his family while working driving trucks for Mason Dixon and then finally retiring at age 55 from Carolina Freight. He always made sure his wife and girls had what they needed.
He was a faithful member of Rock Springs Church of Christ, where his faith was an important part of his life. Always early to arrive, he was tasked with getting the lights turned on for service; a responsibility he was proud of.
In February 1964, Howard married the love of his life, Mary Alice Woody, in Nashville, Tennessee. She preceded him in death 10 years ago.
Also preceding him in death was his parents, John and Maud Woody; sister, Nancy West; and brothers, David Lee Woody and Gerald Trout.
He is survived by his children, Barbara Pitts (Allen); Jan Rutledge (John); grandchildren, Kyle Pitts (Niki); Hannah Pitts; and Karli Abbott (Nick); his great grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Cooper and Blake Pitts; and many nieces and nephews.
Howard will be remembered by his family and friends for the life he shared with those he loved. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
