Hugh is preceded in death by brothers, Paul Breen, Jr. (Betty), William, Thomas (Jean), and Rev. Philip Breen; sisters, Ann Breen Sutter Treadway (Felix), Mary Jo Breen Beavin (Forest W. Beavin); and son-in-law, Dennis Brian Lane.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Marianna Breen Lane, Michelle Breen Jones, and Karen Marie Breen King; granddaughters, Kelly Jones, Angela Terwilliger (Cody) and Stephanie Baker (Ray); great-granddaughters, Taylor Thurman, Lyla Cwiakala-Jones, Natalie Nichols, Mia Baker and Mary Ellen Rose Baker; brother, Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen; sister, Dorothy Williams (Wallace) of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Barbara Breen; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews and friends.
Hugh was born in Nashville where he has lived all his life. He was educated at Cathedral and Christ the King Elementary Schools and Father Ryan High School, where he played and excelled at basketball and football. He attended Spring Hill College and was a 50th year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Hugh was also active at the YMCA in Green Hills.
Hugh devoted his life to his wife of 62 years and 3 loving daughters. He was also deeply committed to God and Christ the King Catholic Church where he was a founding member for over 80 years. He also served as Eucharist minister, led the rosary, ministered Eucharist to the sick, and was active in the Cursillo Movement. Hugh was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Hugh was a caring and giving man who generously donated to others.
The family is grateful for the compassionate and wonderful care of the St. Thomas Staff and health caregivers, Angela and Brenda.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 5:00-6:30 followed by the rosary at Christ the King Catholic Church 3001 Belmont Blvd, Nashville, TN 37212. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph P. Breen celebrant, and Father Dexter Brewer and Father Joe McMann as co-celebrants.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ the King Tuition Assistance or Father Ryan Tuition Assistance.
