Irene "Teddy" Louise Stevens, age 87, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, May 12th, 2023 to meet her Lord and Savior and many family and friends before her. She was born in Yorktown, Virginia on April 10th, 1936 to the late Robert and Virginia Belford. She was preceded in death by Ralph Stevens, her loving husband of 40 years.
Teddy graduated from Poquoson High School. She was proud to be a majorette in her high school band. Teddy went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Johnston-Willis Hospital School of Nursing which was her life-long passion.
Teddy worked in Nursing and Real Estate and then ultimately found her true calling, taking care of her family and home. To others she was “Teddy” but to us, her family; she was “mom”, “granny bear”, “the bear”, the one who taught us to love and give compassion and care for others. She spent her lifetime caring and nursing for everyone she knew.
She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and had a passion for sewing and crafting, gardening, and spending time with her family. An inaugural season ticket holder of the Tennessee Titans, Teddy loved football and Nascar.
She is survived by her blended family: Brenda Smotherman (Tim); Carla Mills (Steve); Brian Hogge (Jackie); Terry Stevens (Anita); Cathey Helton (Don); 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Belford (Delores) and Edward Belford (Mary Rae); and many, much loved, nieces, nephews and lifelong best friends.
