I am sad to hear this today.  She was my favorite patient.  She promised me her eyes several years ago.  She always had great vision and told me she would will them to me when she passed.  We joked about this every time I saw her.  I will miss you Irene!   

My father, Edgar Lee Campbell, Jr., is a first cousin of Teddy. Their mothers were sisters. He will turn 96 this summer. He has always said what a wonderful person she was and that he thought the world of her. On behalf of Daddy and myself, we would like to express our deepest sympathy.

How I met Irene “Teddy” Stevens

Approximately 4 decades ago, my father and I had the pleasure of representing Irene “Teddy” Strachan.  Mrs. Strachan had no children but for years we had heard about her wonderful niece that was named after Mrs. Strachan. As we came to know Mrs. Strachan, we heard so much about this niece that we had to conclude that it couldn't possibly all be true. We finally had the opportunity to meet Teddy and we discovered all that was said was not only true but it was understated.

Over the years, Teddy would come to a small town outside of Cleveland called Chagrin Falls to see her “Aunt Teddy”. The town of Chagrin Falls was filled with excellent restaurants, art galleries & clothing stores. It got to the point where Teddy was coming to Chagrin Falls once a month and she would stay for a week to help her Aunt. 

We would go out to lunch and dinners very often and when we were finished eating, we always had a glass of cognac. During this period of time, many of the townspeople got to know Teddy. She was just the most unique person, intelligent, attractive, and she spoke with that beautiful Southern accent, which captured the imagination of so many of the Chagrin Falls inhabitants. 

Teddy had that infectious smile, personality and appeal that the Chagrin Fallers just loved. After a couple of years, she would walk down the street smiling, greeting and talking with so many of the locals. I commented quite often that Teddy should definitely run for Mayor of the Village of Chagrin Falls, because she would be elected.

Teddy loved her family, her 2 daughters and her son and I know that they loved her. It was with the most profound sadness that I learned of her death. I just loved Teddy, I'm glad I knew her and I'm glad she was my friend. I will never forget her.

Even though Aunt Teddy lived in Tennessee and I lived in Virginia most of my adult life we maintained a close friendship talking on the phone frequently.  We kept each other up to date on family members activities and events.  I especially enjoyed stories she would tell me about my Daddy (her oldest brother) and her childhood experiences as well as other family members (cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.)  We were very fortunate she was able to travel to Virginia in July 2021 for my Daddy's 90th birthday.  I loved my Aunt Teddy and will miss her very much.  I send all my love and prayers to her children, grandchildren and other extended family members.
