

CLOYD, James “Jim” Barry, D.D.S., age 88 of Hermitage, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Dr. Cloyd was born in Nashville and grew up in Donelson, graduating from Donelson High School in 1943. Drafted into the Navy two months later as a pharmacist mate, he served on the USS Callaway in the Pacific Theater. He was preceded in death by parents, Coen and Sue Cloyd and sister, Betty Sue Dunlap. Survived by his five children, Dr. Steve Cloyd (Cindy), Bobbie Sue Fertig (Les), Dr. David Cloyd (Kathy), Patricia Ann Taylor and James H. Cloyd; brother, Dr. Thomas H. Cloyd (Betty); 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Dr. Cloyd practiced Dentistry in Donelson and Hermitage for almost 50 years. Influenced by his brother Tom, he became involved in medical missions to Central America and the Caribbean from 1977 to 1998 through The United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, biking, skiing, sitting on the front porch and working around his farm in Hermitage. He loved his dogs, Tebo and Lil’ boy and good home cooking. A heartfelt thank you to his friend and caregiver Brenda. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Hibbett & Hailey Chapel with Dr. Thomas H. Cloyd officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday.
