James Davidson Gilmore passed away April 4, 2017. He was born in Lawrenceburg Tennessee to Sarah and William Gilmore. James attended and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in 1952 and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1956. He served as Captain in the United States Marine Corps. James construction and engineering accomplishments included construction of Kroger Stores, office buildings, condominiums and apartments across the country. He retired in 2010 from the Parkes Companies. He was a member of American Mensa. James, also known as Gilmore, brought joy and smiles to all. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha. Son David Michael (Stephanie) Gilmore, Granddaughter Tracy (Eric) Coward, great grandchildren Presley and Ethan Coward; daughter Stephanie (Bobby) Greene, grandchildren Elliot and Jaymes Greene.Visitation Thursday April 6th from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Second visitation Friday April 7th from nine o’clock in the morning until time of the funeral at Ten o’clock in the morning in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the James D. Gilmore Memorial at St. Andrews’s-Sewanee School, Sewanee, TN.
