James Stephen (Steve) Penix, 68 years old, passed away at his home in Brentwood, TN on Friday, January 11, 2019 from heart failure. He was born on April 10, 1950 to James Newton Penix and Wilma Jean Hasty in Nashville, TN. He spent his life living in Nashville and Brentwood. He graduated from Cohn High School in 1968 and attended David Lipscomb University. He spent six years of service in the US Army National Guard. He worked as an engineer for Vanderbilt University, Opryland Hotel and Theme Park, Stouffer Hotel, and David Lipscomb University. In 1998, Steve Penix founded Facility Services Incorporated (FSI), and served as its owner and CEO until he retired in 2013. He was a member of Berry's Chapel Church of Christ in Franklin. He volunteered at Vanderbilt Hospital’s Cardiac Department and the Red Cross. He was a very proud husband, father, and grandfather. His passions included classic cars, fishing, camping, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Cayce Penix. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Melissa Joy Grissim Penix; his children Jeffrey Stephen Penix (wife Robyn) and Brian Lee Penix (wife Renee); his sister Linda Gayle Martin; his brother David Alan Penix; and his grandchildren Jessica Michelle Penix, Anna Joy Penix, Joshua Stephen Penix, and Maxwell Lee Penix.
Visitation with the family will be held Monday, January 14 from 5:00-7:00pm at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 600 Thompson Lane. Nashville, TN and one hour prior to funeral service. His funeral service will be Tuesday, January 15 at 1:00 pm, also at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home. Burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Heart Association in Steve’s name.
