Jimmy was the beloved husband of 61 years (and 18 days) of Peggy Stark Holmes, and a very proud Dad and Grandpa. He is survived by sons Steve Holmes (Pam) and Scott Holmes (Rachel); daughters Susan Garrison (Mike) and Stefanie Holmes. He’s preceded in death by his and Peggy’s firstborn, Jamie. He is survived by 10 grandkids: Madeleine Jones (Andy); Colin Holmes; Alex Holmes; Jami Holmes; Andrew Holmes (Kaitlin); Thomas Holmes; Emily Garrison; Grace Holmes; Sam Holmes, and Kenlyn Ginn.
Born in Nashville to Mary Daugherty Holmes and James Ernest Holmes, he was the middle of five brothers: Phillip, Johnny, Mike and Tim, who were all older brothers to sister Anne. He’s preceded in death by his parents; siblings Johnny, Mike and Anne; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is survived by brothers Phillip and Tim and many loving friends and other family members.
Jimmy was an alumni of Father Ryan High School, class of 1955, and a proud Air Force veteran. His vast knowledge of computers came from a career as a programmer and systems analyst dating back to the 1960s.
Jimmy was devoted to Peggy. They married on December 31, 1960, and he could tell you in a flash down to the number of months and days how long they’d been married.
Mom, we are so grateful for your devotion to Dad, especially in the last few years. And though none of us could’ve done it without each other, we want to extend a special thank you to Susan, Colin and Emily.
There will be a private graveside service due to Covid, with a memorial at a later date. If you’d like to make a donation in his memory, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
