James “Jimmy” Kemp Sr., age 64, of Nashville, Tennessee, crossed the finish line of this life on November 13, 2025. Born with a love of cars and a heart big enough to hold everyone he met, Jimmy lived life much like his beloved NASCAR—loud, fast, and with absolutely no apologies.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kemp, who faithfully rode shotgun through every twist, turn, and victory lap of their life together for the last 18 years. He leaves behind three children who inherited his humor, stubborn streak, and storytelling abilities: James Kemp Jr. (wife April), Jason Kemp (wife Jennifer), and Marquita Hair (husband Matthew Hair).
He was the proud Pawpaw to seven grandchildren—Jase, Brooke, Jacob, Elizabeth, Piper, Riley, and Renee and one great grandchild Journey- who they all could always count on him for a laugh, a lesson, or a snack.
Jimmy is also survived by his sister, Melissa Gannon, who knew his secrets and loved him anyway.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emma Lois and Robert (Cannon Ball) Kemp and siblings Bobby, Wanda, Patricia (Groovy), and Vicky, and half siblings Johnny, and Pam who no doubt greeted him at Heaven’s gate with open arms—and probably a little friendly teasing.
When Jimmy wasn’t watching anything with wheels, horsepower, he was tinkering or fixing something. He was happiest on the water, cruising with the sun on his face and listening to Nelly turned all the way up. But above all, Jimmy loved his family. They were his pride, his joy, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Jimmy lived a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, on November 20, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. A graveside service is scheduled at 3:00 pm.
