Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Anne Pace Owen (2016), and his son Tim Owen (1985). He is survived by his sons, Bill (Cindy) Owen and Phil (Nancy) Owen, and his daughter Kim Owen; six grandchildren — Brandon (Lesley Ann), Blake (Natalie), Barrett (Noelle), Eric (Rachael), Jenna (Justin), and Allison (Justin); and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jim served as a Baptist pastor and preacher for fifty years, faithfully leading congregations across the Southeast. He pastored Guthrie, Grey, Hickory Hills, East Commerce, Alexandria, Saturn Drive, and Lyle Lane Baptist Churches. He was a graduate of Belmont College and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, bringing both passionate preaching and pastoral presence to his ministry.
He was a unique blend of strength and grace, a focused, steady, and resolute man shaped by his service as an Army sergeant during the Korean War, and a charming, winsome, and tender pastor who loved everyone he met. He always found something to affirm in others and left a legacy of kindness, faith, and integrity.
Jim was a devoted husband, a wise and gracious father, a deeply loved “Papa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed and remembered with lasting gratitude.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with Dr. Bill Owen officiating. Visitation with the family will take place on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the same location, followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will afterward be at Woodlawn Memorial Park
