James "Rody" William Rhodes Jr.

Nashville TN - age 77, departed this life on February 4th, 2021 surrounded by the ones he loved. He was born on April 20, 1943 in Louisville KY to the late Francis Marie Oakley and James William Rhodes Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Thomas Oakley, and grandson James Thomas Cox.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Jeri G Rhodes of Nashville, TN; his daughter Dawn Cox and her husband Brandon of Brentwood, TN and his stepson Michael Parham of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren; Parker Cox, Celt Parham, Aidan Parham, Kierra Parham and Kalli Parham. Three brothers; Steve Oakley (Rita), Dwight Oakley (Susan), Wesley Oakley (Rita); four nephews and one niece.

He graduated from Antioch High School class of 1961. He then joined the Air Force and served from 1961-1965 as a medic all four years at Lackland AFB.

Jim worked for Western Electric and retired from AT&T after 25 years of service. He was also the Security Doorman at Continental Condominium in Nashville, TN for 18 years.

Jim was an active member of the American Legion Post 88 for 53 years where he served as Post Commander from 2006-2007 and Post Adjutant from 1995-1996. He also served on the executive board and was Captain of the Post 88 Clown Unit. He was Sergeant at Arms and First Vice Commander and is an Honorary Lifetime Member of the American Legion. He was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 1291. He was Past Chef de Gare of The Forty and Eight Voiture 702 and he faithfully served in the Post 88 Color Guard for 25 years.

Visitation will be from eleven o’clock in the morning until time of the service at one o’clock on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 88 2717 McCampbell Ave Nashville, TN 37214 immediately following the service.
