James Buist Richardson III

Buist Richardson age 94, passed away on June 9, 2026. He was born April 19th, 1932, in Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents J. Buist Richardson, Jr. and Mary Yancey Richardson; his wife Martha Richardson of 68 years and sister Yancey Parks (Gallatin, TN).

He is survived by his son, Buist Fort Richrdson (Mary), four grand children Reed, Fort (Gina), Rachel, Zach (Mary Kate) and his niece Mary Yancey Parks.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School and then graduated from Vanderbilt University as a Phi Delt with a degree in engineering. He entered the US Navy as a gunnery officer aboard the USS Latimer.

He then began his professional career with National Life and Accident Insurance Company (NLT). After 26 years, he moved to Third National Bank (Truist) where he finished his career.

Buist was very active in the Episcopal Church. He and Martha were founding members of St. Davids Church. They transferred back to St. George’s where he served on the vestry for several years. He is a past president of the Episcopal Endowment Corporation and received Bishop Herlong’s cross for his years of service.

He enjoyed hunting (Boots dead-eye Richardson), fishing and traveling. He and Martha traveled the world.

Services will be held Friday June 26th at St. George’s Episcopal Church. There will be a visitation from 10:30-11:30 with the service beginning at 11:30 in the chapel.
