

Coombs, Jane Phillips of Nashville died on January 12, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born April 13, 1923, the daughter of William C. Phillips and Marguerite J. Phillips. Jane attended Central High School in Nashville and George Peabody College for Teachers. Receiving a BS degree she taught in Paris, TN City Schools before returning to Nashville to work as a medical technologist at St. Thomas Hospital. She continued medical technology at Veterans Administration Hospital in 1969 retiring in 1986. Jane was married to Hudson W. Coombs for 48 years. Survived by son William Hudson Coombs and daughter-in-law Scottie Fillebrown Coombs; grandchildren, Lauren Scott Quinn, Hudson Phillips Coombs, and Marguerite Fillebrown Coombs; nieces and nephews, Martha Ellen Coombs Balkin (Peter), Ann Terrell Fussell (Jim), James Andrew Terrell (Pam), and John Carnduff Coombs (Loretta); many loving great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jane loved her family, was an avid bridge player, enjoyed travel, and was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School class at Belmont United Methodist Church. Pallbearers – Jim Terrell, Jack Coombs, John Burroughs, Mark Smith, Scott Moore, and Woody Turner. Honorary Pallbearers – Joe Jacobs, George Offschanka, George Bass, David Venrick, Charles Stone, Sr., and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Visitation with the family will be held at Belmont United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 16 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following conducted by Joe E. Pennel, Jr. and Linda Johnson. A private burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Avenue/P.O. Box 120098, Nashville, TN 37212..
