Wonderful wife and mother, adoring Nana, and precious friend, Jane Holland Meredith Main went to be with her Lord, peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 6, 2022. Born in Scottsville, KY, on May 4, 1943, Jane grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and was an Honor Graduate of Hattiesburg High School.
Following graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.F.A. degree in Drawing, Painting, and Commercial Art, Jane continued Master’s level Art Education studies at several universities. Included in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities,” she was a certified art teacher, who taught in schools and art centers in four southeastern states.
As a survivor of breast cancer at the age of forty-eight, she turned her illness into a calling, counseling so many who walk the difficult journey of illness. She was selected The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center’s 1993 Outstanding Patient of the Year, where she actively pursued legislative passage of insurance coverage of stem cell transplantation. She authored a book, “Living on the Stem of Hope”, which was used in cancer centers around the country.
She was a dedicated fundraiser for and served on the boards of The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation (original member and Emeritus), American Red Cross, and American Lung Association, where she chaired the 1987 Christmas Jubilee Ball and was named Lung’s Development Volunteer of the Year for Middle Tennessee. She was a past President and Vanderbilt Advisor of Chi Omega Alumnae Association.
Jane loved to travel worldwide with family and friends, including her many ventures with Jim in their trips associated with HCA. She especially enjoyed her many years of boating, golf, gourmet cooking, and fishing in Longboat Key, FL. Nothing brought her greater joy than her family and actively being a part of all of her family's various activities.
Jane was an active, forty-year member of Woodmont Christian Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life and was her source of strength in her health battles. She especially enjoyed her participation and service along side her grandchildren during the annual Walk Thru Bethlehem at church.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, John Wooten Meredith, M.D., and Rachel Nadine Holland Meredith; John Meredith (brother); Robert Osmus Sigler (step-father); and James Davidson Slonecker (infant grandson).
Jane is survived by her beloved husband and wonderful caretaker James Selwyn Main, children: John Christopher Main (Anne-Marie), Meredith Main Slonecker (Chris), grandchildren: Mary Grace Slonecker, John William Slonecker, Emily Alexandra Main, Meredith Caroline Slonecker, Catherine Anne Main, Anna Claire Slonecker, and Christopher Andrew Slonecker.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Woodmont Christian Church,
