Janet Marie Miller McGinty passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee. She spent her final days surrounded by the love of her two daughters, Laura Bowen and Sarah Crabtree, and listening to her beloved hymns and carols.
Janet was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 12, 1939, and she spent her early years in Toledo, Ohio and Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a longtime resident of Wooster, Ohio, where she raised her daughters with her husband Bruce until he passed away in 1997. Janet spent her later years in Cincinnati and Nashville with her daughters.
Janet loved spending her childhood summers at Camp Huntingdon on Walloon Lake in Michigan. She attended East Grand Rapids High School and Michigan State University, where she was a Pi Beta Phi. For decades, Janet was a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church in Wooster, and she was a frequent volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Known as “Gram” to her five devoted grandchildren, Janet cherished her years with her granddaughters Mimi, Lily and Rosemary Bowen and grandsons Luke and Charlie Crabtree. She also adored her two dogs, Hashbrown and Sophie.
Janet maintained a joyful spirit throughout her years with Alzheimer’s disease. She never lost her broad smile or her gentle, cheerful nature. She made wonderful friends in her years at The Cumberland and then Barton House, and her family is so thankful for the loving care that she received from the dedicated staff at Barton House and Kindred Hospice.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Bromfield McGinty, her brother, William H. Miller, Jr., her parents Elizabeth and William H. Miller, Sr. and her stepdaughter Anne Wendling. In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Janet is survived by her son-in-law Jim Bowen, sister-in-law Karolyn Miller, three nieces, Jennifer Miller, Melissa Miller Englehart and Courtney Miller Bixby, and her stepchildren Pete McGinty and Liza Catron.
