Janetta Kay Kimberlin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away in Nashville, TN, on Thursday, February 29th, the unique leap year day. Born on September 6, 1938, in Springfield, KY, Kay’s journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Married at the tender age of 19, Kay and her husband, Roland, would have celebrated 67 years of happy marriage this year, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a family of three children in their early days in Bruceton, TN, and eventually moved to Nashville, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and invaluable lessons.
Kay’s professional life was as impactful as her personal life. After her children were grown, she revitalized the forgotten outlet stores of "Chic by H.I.S.," significantly contributing to the company's success by expanding from 2 to 10 stores and adding $10 million in revenue. However, it was her ability to connect with people on a personal level that genuinely defined her legacy. Kay was known for her incredible knack for gathering stories and making everyone she met feel valued and understood.
She leaves behind a loving family; her Husband, Roland; Daughters, Deborah Kimberlin and Lynn Kimberlin Burkett; Son, Bill Kimberlin and Daughter-in-law, Athena Kimberlin; Granddaughter, Kimberlin Burkett and her husband, Garrett Trosper, Grandson, Xi Pu; sister, Sharon Coyle; and an extended family of 18 nieces and nephews across the Kimberlins, Thorntons, and Coyles. Her spirit, love, and dedication to her family and friends will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
An extraordinary woman, Kay’s passing on a leap year day symbolizes the uniqueness of her presence in this world—never just an ordinary day for an extraordinary woman.
Her commitment to the American Heart Association and the Arthritis Foundation reflected her compassion and dedication to helping others, leaving a lasting impact on the communities she cherished.
In memory of Kay, a celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane Nashville, TN 37204, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, inviting all who knew and loved her to come together, share memories, and honor a truly remarkable woman.
