I first met Jay when we were both assigned by the Election Commission to work in the same precinct. I think the year was about 2006. The precinct was Norman Binkley Elementary School in Crieve Hall. I was assigned as the Precinct Officer, and no officer ever had a right hand man as good as Jay was. He knew everybody's job in the precinct and could fill in anywhere when someone went down. I discussed many problems/issues with Jay before making decisions. He was also the one person I could count on to help me set the precinct up the day before voting. He had good knowledge of wiring/cabling, which came in handy during set up. We worked together during early voting at Bellemeade City Hall 2008 - 2010. These would be stints of 3 weeks or so long and allowed me to get to know Jay even better. Jay had a knack for making voters feel at ease. After I was assigned to a different precinct in 2012, I didn't get to see Jay as often, but made a point of early voting in Green Hills, so I could run into him there. Jay was a wonderful friend and colleague. I will miss his friendship greatly!

Mr Jacobs was a devoted father and husband. I honestly think he was the kindest man I’ve ever known! I never heard him get angry and as high school friends with Jan, I’m sure we gave him plenty of opportunities! Jan lived in town, I lived in Mt Juliet, and Kristan lived in Hendersonville so Jan’s house was home base for our weekend festivities. Mr Jacobs always seemed happy to have us around the house. He would joke around with us and loved to laugh. He was a gentle soul.
I imagine he is meeting the real Knights of Columbus in heaven right now.
God Bless you, Jay!
