Age 47 of Atlanta, died Friday, July 11, 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Madigan Simmons; mother, Judy Fingerle Simmons; sister, Alison Simmons Wingo (John); brother, Martin Earle Simmons (Mary Katherine) and many nieces, nephews and godchildren whom he loved dearly and who, in turn, loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Ernest Simmons; grandparents, Martin Ernest Simmons, Corinne Cloy Simmons, Earle Chapin Fingerle, and Phyllis Turnbull Fingerle.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he and his parents moved to Nashville the following year. Carter attended Battle Ground Academy in Franklin. He attended Auburn University and graduated with a degree in Political Science and Government. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He moved to Atlanta after his graduation, where he had a very successful real estate career partnering with Roddie White. Carter was a visionary, and he left his mark on Atlanta with beautiful buildings like Buckhead Village Lofts and Matheson Exchange. His company was one of the first to bring the concept of luxury loft living to Atlanta.
Carter was a member of Druid Hills Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He also loved being with his family and friends, and was an avid lover of music and his dogs. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.
A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Franklin, Tennessee with visitation starting at one o'clock.
A memorial reception will be held August 7, 2014 from six to eight o'clock in the evening at Druid Hills Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Atlanta Humane Society.
