This is a tribute to Ron from my friend Tamara Yurich: This post is just for me. Just cause i need to write it out. And maybe someone who loves Jimmy Jenkins will find comfort hearing a story or two about him. After my little brother passed away, hearing "new" stories about him was the best gift ever. The only way to do that was through the memories of others. In early 2001, I moved to Nashville, TN to pursue my music and didn't know a soul. I was too young to go in any of the local establishments to try and meet people as connections, so I walked the busy downtown streets to feel the atmosphere and get to know the faces. One of the first people I met there was Ron. I felt so out of place in the big city, but there he sat in an old cowboy hat with his horse and carriage on the curb of Broadway. And I knew horses. So I'd stop and pet his horse Fat Boy and we'd talk and laugh and it made me feel not so lost in that town. I'd see him every time and we got to be good friends. I'd hop with him in the carriage and ride up front with him while he told hilarious stories and amazing Nashville facts to the tourists he gave rides to around the downtown. Eventually I got a job as a bouncer (oh yes!) at the Wildhorse Saloon where I stood outside carding folks coming in and Ron would park his carriage out front and I'd sneak out and give Fat Boy mints (which Ron hated Fat Boy to have, but he loved it so I ignored him haha). We'd laugh while we people-watched and then he'd be off to do another lap and come back by later. He called me one evening because Fat Boy was colicking and and I drove out and we took turns walking him all night to keep him alive. It was after that night our friendship was sealed. He used to drive the Christmas carriage for Opryland and Donna Neely and I would go out and bring him warm drinks when it was bitter cold. That was the first and last time I ever tried to make coffee for anyone. He even drank it! This is just a small part of her tribute .
