

He was born on January 8, 1934, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Nell and Hubert Kennedy. Joe graduated from Central High School and later attended Peabody College, where he earned a degree in Economics. On August 26, 1955, he married the love of his life, Betty Ann Kennedy. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared more than 70 years of love and devotion.
Joe enjoyed a successful and rewarding professional career that reflected his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. As a young boy, he operated a newspaper delivery route, where he developed the determination and drive that would serve him throughout his life. After graduating from college, he worked for AVCO and Ford before beginning a career in global sales, specializing in capacitors. He quickly rose to become the company's top salesperson. During those years, Joe, Betty, and their sons, Scott and Joe Jr., had the opportunity to travel the world together, experiencing different countries and cultures.
Later, Joe fulfilled his dream of owning his own business by founding Kelex Electronics in Mission Viejo, California. He and Betty successfully operated the company together for many years before retiring and selling the business. Following retirement, Joe devoted his time to real estate investments, another venture he greatly enjoyed. He truly loved every chapter of his professional journey.
Beyond his career, Joe had a deep passion for animals, especially his beloved cats. He cherished spending time with family and friends and treasured the memories made while traveling the world with Betty and their sons. In his later years, he found great joy in spending countless hours on his patio looking at the mountain in Palm Springs. Once he moved to Tennessee, he enjoyed feeding the squirrels from his back porch. He embraced life with an upbeat attitude, an adventurous spirit, and a genuine appreciation for each day.
Joe never met a stranger. Throughout his life, he formed countless friendships and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He will be remembered most for his intelligence, wealth of knowledge, kindness, generosity, and the positive impact he had on so many lives.
Joe is survived by many loving family members, including nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Betty Ann Kennedy, and his two beloved sons, Joe V. Kennedy, Jr., and Scott Michael Kennedy.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee 37204. Funeral Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with burial to follow.
Joe will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
