John had a passion for good food and good wine. He worked as a chef in San Francisco, Chicago, France, and Washington DC. After retiring from the professional kitchen, he continued to prepare wonderful meals for family and friends while also looking for new locally owned restaurants to support and new wines to enjoy. John had a wonderful welcoming smile, and made every person feel special. He enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors, especially enjoying trips to California wine country.
John is survived by his wife, Sallie Ballantine Bailey, his mother Louise Waterman Bailey of Eagle River, Wisconsin, his brother and sister-in-law Wilbur and Ann Bailey of Santa Fe, New Mexico and sister and brother-in-law Charlotte and George Moore of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, nieces and nephew Andrew (Cindy), Jasmine (John), Amy (Ben), Katie, and great nieces and nephews Megan, Lindsay, Avery, Garrett, and Kai.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, or the Eagle River, Wisconsin Library.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, November 16 at 3:00 pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church located at 4715 Harding Pike.
