

Mike was born on January 8, 1947, and lived a life marked by faith, service, leadership, and devotion to his family and community. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Tennessee Technological University. While at Tennessee Tech, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Army through the ROTC program.
Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, including service in Vietnam. His final active-duty assignment was as Commanding Officer of the 221st Signal Company. He remained deeply committed to his fellow veterans throughout his life as a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Post 1089.
After completing his military service, Mike built a career in finance, accounting, and business administration. He began his professional career working in the trade sales division of a manufacturing company before serving as controller for a privately owned cabinet manufacturer. The final nineteen years of his career were spent with the United Way of Metro Nashville, where he served first as Controller and later as Chief Financial Officer. His expertise and leadership were recognized nationally when he was selected to serve on the Financial Issues Committee of United Way of America, where he helped develop financial policies and provided guidance to local United Way organizations across the country. Throughout his career, Mike was respected for his integrity, financial stewardship, and commitment to serving others.
Mike was a devoted member of Rural Hill Church of Christ, beginning in 1975. Over nearly five decades of service to his church family, he served as an elder for 18 years, a deacon for many years prior, and faithfully oversaw church finances for approximately 45 years. He was actively involved in numerous church activities, including organizing and serving at various church events and church softball, and was known for his steadfast leadership, wisdom, and servant's heart.
Throughout his life, Mike enjoyed a variety of interests including golfing, gardening, coaching youth league baseball at Una Recreation Center, cooking, and studying history. His love of history led him to serve for seven years on the Board of Directors of Historic Rugby, where he contributed his financial expertise.
For 57 years, Mike shared a loving and devoted marriage with his wife, Denelle (Denni) Wilkinson Green. Together they built a family centered on faith, love, and service to others.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Denni Green; his two children, John (Deanna) Green and Kim (Kris) Germann; and his four cherished grandchildren-Elly, Eric, Everett, and Samuel, who lovingly called him Pop. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy Green.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Larry Wilkinson, Joseph VanDeweghe, and Jamie Walters. The elders of Rural Hill Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204 on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park at 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
A Committal Service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204 at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Way Endowment Fund.
Mike will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to service, love for his family, and the quiet strength with which he led and cared for others. His legacy will continue to live on in the lives he touched.
