John William Moore

John William Moore passed away on January 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Roseboro, NC on August 5, 1947. John is preceded in death by his parents Raymond & Mildred Moore and his half brother Douglas Moore. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Stedrak, son Sean (Samantha) Moore, granddaughter Sophia and his half sister Nancy Senior of Saskatchewan, Canada.

After graduating high school, John proudly served his country in the US Navy. He played saxophone in the Navy band while serving on the USS John F Kennedy aircraft carrier.

John obtained his Ph.D. from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He joined Belmont University in 1979 as a faculty member in the Psychology Department. He continued to serve at Belmont in the Information Systems Department as a Programmer Analyst, Director and Systems Analyst until his retirement in December 2016. He continued at Belmont as a consultant through December 2019.

John was a man of many talents. He played saxophone in the Jesse Powers Orchestra, participated in chess tournaments, competed in weightlifting competitions and was two times Tennessee State Champion in benchpress. He wrote comedy and even performed at Zanies in Nashville for his comedy class graduation. He was a huge Civil War history buff and an avid reader. John was especially involved with his son‘s passion for athletics. He even coached him for one baseball season. Most importantly John was a beloved husband, father and friend.

Visitation is Friday, January 10, 2020 from 10:30-11:45am inside the main church at Christ the King on Belmont Boulevard. Funeral service will immediately follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Room In The Inn at Christ the King Catholic Church.
